Abuse of power

The Supreme Court ruling against the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump shows what was a great overreach by Trump. The Court is comprised of six conservative judges with only three that generally lean left, so this decision shows they were able to see past politics and make a ruling that defends the U.S. Constitution. While the ruling does not affect all of the tariffs, it does make clear that the tariffs Trump implemented as threats, such as those directed at Canada and Mexico are illegal. This ruling sends a clear message that Trump has abused the power of the Executive Branch of the United States and that those powers do have limits. When two of the three judges appointed by Trump himself, Justices Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, were in favor of this ruling, it shows that the system is working the way it was designed to work. It proves that justices are not there to serve a president, but to uphold the Constitution and the law. Hopefully, this sends a message to Trump that trying to stack the Judicial Branch does not give him absolute power, and that he will not be able to reach that goal by trying to stack the Congressional Branch either. It is a reminder that our system of checks and balances still matters and that no president, no matter who appointed the judges, is above the Constitution. Trump called the ruling a disgrace., but what he is really calling a disgrace is our U.S. Consitution and the seperation of power that it created by the three branch system. In Donald Trump's view, if anything stops him from having absolute power, it is then considered a disgrace.
