I am not defending Dr. Anthony Fauci in any way for pleading the Fifth during the COVID hearing run by Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, but I am criticizing Rand Paul himself. How can Rand Paul blame the lockdowns on Anthony Fauci and also blame him for the virus that killed millions of people? Those two arguments don't seem to fit together, and that is where I think Rand Paul has a problem with his own logic. Rand Paul has often claimed that COVID originated in China, either by accident or on purpose, and that the Chinese are responsible for the millions of deaths that COVID caused. Let's say this is true. I don't know the answer either way, but for the sake of argument let's say it is true. If that is the case, then Rand Paul is describing COVID as a virus that was deadly enough to kill millions of people around the world. That is a very serious claim, and if it is true, then it should also change the way he thinks about the lockdowns. His argument makes them absolutely necessary. In this case, how can Rand Paul justify how much he was against the lockdowns and blaming liberals for them? If he is right that this virus killed millions of people, then he should be giving credit to the liberals for the lockdowns that saved a lot of lives, or at least for trying to save lives with the information they had at the time. Instead, he criticizes them for putting those policies in place while also arguing that the virus itself was one of the deadliest in modern history. It seems like he wants to use whichever argument works best depending on the political point he is trying to make.
