weaponizing dOJ

Trump was complaining about the weaponizing of the Department of Justice. He wanted to give money to people who were arrested for breaking into the Capitol. It was a great thing that this was shut down. So now that he is doing it with politically motivated investigations of Gavin Newsom, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, and James Comey, is Trump going to try to bring back the idea that “victims” of weaponization should be financially compensated? The right will argue that this is politically motivated on both sides and that Trump is trying to correct a wrong, but that argument has no merit. The people that Trump was trying to pay financially broke into the Capitol. They were charged with breaking into a federal building and damaging federal property, and he wanted to call them the victims. They harmed police officers, and yet they were being portrayed as people who deserved compensation instead of being held accountable. Trump’s end game was probably to make these criminals out to be victims so that he himself could be made out to be a victim despite being a charged criminal himself. Trump still says that the FBI was the one that let everyone into the Capitol, but at the time it was an FBI director that he appointed, Christopher Wray. That part of the argument is difficult to believe, mostly because it is a lie that the right continues to tell. If the FBI leadership was his choice, then blaming the FBI while also defending the people who entered the Capitol raises questions because, although it didn’t happen, if it did happen, it should call Trump’s own judgment into question when it comes to leadership roles as well. People can disagree about investigations and whether politics influences them, but there is still a difference between being investigated for something the president is trying to make up and breaking into a federal building, damaging property, and assaulting police officers. There was lots of video proof that those things happened. Those weren’t politically motivated charges we all saw what happened. It’s just that the right likes to ignore what they saw and let Trump tell them what they saw.
