I am not defending the Iranian government in any way, far from it. But for people to say that one of the reasons we attacked was because protesters in Iran were being killed is a very weak argument coming from the right. All of a sudden, we care about Muslim people protesting in another country, yet here we see this administration ridicule, try to silence, and even commit violence against people in our own country who stand up for the rights of similar people. ICE killing protesters in our country has been justified, but we want to call out another country for being evil. That is complete hypocrisy. It’s hypocrisy from Donald Trump, his administration, and their supporters. What is happening to protesters in Iran is evil, but are we really supposed to believe that Donald Trump is suddenly this caring soul who is only trying to prevent harm to the Iranian people? That just doesn’t match his past views or the views of his supporters. He talks about women’s rights in Iran, yet has treated women in our own country in ways that many would call disgraceful. All of a sudden, we care about people from other countries when it’s used to justify military action. The right would be better off sticking with the argument that Iran was close to developing nuclear weapons. Whether that claim is true or not, at least it is an argument you can see them making from their political background, instead of an issue based around human rights in a way that goes against all their past views and actions.
